Surgical dressings types is a medical material that is used to bandage wounds, cover sores, wounds or other damages. It can play a temporality barrier function in wound healing.which can protect the wound.control wound infection and provide a good environment to heal wound.With the increasing of bums and chronic ulcer wound.the demand for medical dressings is getting greater and greater. Based on the materials of Medical plastic suppliers, it will be divided into traditional dressings, natural dressings, synthetic dressings, medical dressings and tissue engineering dressing five categories, among which the new medical dressings are developing rapidly, such as transparent film, hydrogel, alginate salt, foam and hydrocolloid.



Traditional dressing, such as medical cotton and non-woven dressings as we all know, is the most widely used dressing for skin wound in clinic. It has many advantages over other surgical dressings like mesh weave structure, low price, simple production process, wide range of sources of raw materials and absorption capacity. However, it is prone to exogenous infection and has poor hemostatic effects.

Chitosan dressings, alginate dressings, animal dressings, collagen dressings are all natural dressings. Alginate dressings, which are relatively soft and easy to fold and apply, can form a soft gel-like semi-solid substance on the wound, providing a moist environment which is different from traditional gauze dressings for wound healing and improve the regeneration ability and migration of epidermal cells. Pigskin is the mainly used animal dressings now to treat burns and skin grafts. Raw materials of pigskin are readily available. It is closer with human skin in the structure, adhesion and collagen content.

Most synthetic dressings are new surgical dressings. Transparent film dressings are characterized as : easy to observe the wound, closely adhering to the wound surface, effectively inhibiting the wound exudates, promoting necrotic tissue loss and being in favor of moist environment, while Medical cotton suppliers are much thicker than transparent film dressings. It has almost no ability to transport water vapor, depending on the hydrocolloid layer to absorb the exudates. Foam dressings, presenting with porosity, low surface tension, strong elasticity and plasticity, have strong capacity of exudates absorption and are almost completely transparent for oxygen and carbon dioxide. Currently the most common used materials are polyurethane (PU) foam and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) foam. Hydrogel dressings smooth surface and good biocompatibility. They can tightly bond to uneven wounds to reduce bacteria, accelerate angiogenesis and promote epithelial cell growth.

Medical dressings coat on the dressings by the means of impregnating or coating, such as ointment dressings, sterile dressings, and traditional Chinese medicine dressing. Medicinal dressings play important roles in protecting the wound and relieving pain, bleeding and inflammation to promote the growth of granulation tissue and epithelial cells.
